After all, citizens are far easier to control when they\u2019re afraid.<\/p>\n<p>I fully agree that COVID is dangerous. So far, well over\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/right-experts-confirm-covid-deaths-massively-inflated-actual-numbers-dramatically-lower-official-count\/?ff_source=Email&amp;ff_medium=newsletter-CT&amp;ff_campaign=dailypm&amp;ff_content=conservative-tribune\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">800,000 U.S. citizens have died\u00a0<em>with<\/em>\u00a0this virus<\/a>\u00a0over the course of the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>People must take the proper precautions, but they should also be aware that much of what we\u2019re seeing in the media exaggerates the actual danger of the virus.<\/p>\n<div id=\"in-article-trending\" class=\"in-article-more inner-content\">\n<div class=\"in-article-more-label\">Trending:<\/div>\n<div class=\"in-article-more-right\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/alert-fb-punishing-people-everywhere-posting-8-word-thomas-paine-quote\/?ff_source=Email&amp;ff_medium=newsletter-CT&amp;ff_campaign=dailypm&amp;ff_content=conservative-tribune\" data-type=\"Internal link\" data-type-location=\"in-content-trending\">Alert: FB Is Punishing People Everywhere for Posting This 8-Word Thomas Paine Quote<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Democrats have maintained that COVID is the most dangerous thing we face on a daily basis. Or at least that\u2019s been the timbre of their rhetoric. But that\u2019s not what COVID is at all. COVID is a virus that can kill humans but is actually less likely to do so than many everyday things Dems and the media have hardly mentioned since 2020.<\/p>\n<p>An instructive article in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/12\/23\/briefing\/covids-risk-to-older-adults.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The New York Times<\/a>, combined with a few readily available government statistics, provides some necessary perspective on the seriousness of the threat posed by the coronavirus.<\/p>\n<p>The Times reported last week on a University of Oxford study that calculated\u00a0death rates for \u201chypothetical\u201d\u00a0<em>vaccinated<\/em>\u00a0people of miscellaneous ages, some of whom they assigned underlying conditions.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\" class=\"one-half\">\n<div class=\"firefly-poll-question\">Has the government tried to frighten citizens about COVID?<\/div>\n<div id=\"pollFormBox\">\n<form id=\"firefly-poll\" class=\"firefly-poll\"><label><input name=\"answer\" required=\"required\" type=\"radio\" value=\"yes\" \/>Yes<\/label>\u00a0<label><input name=\"answer\" required=\"required\" type=\"radio\" value=\"no\" \/>No<\/label><br \/>\n<input type=\"submit\" value=\"Submit\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"firefly-poll-disclaimer\">Completing this poll entitles you to The Western Journal news updates free of charge. It was also conducted before the emergence of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/cdc-announces-79-us-omicron-cases-occurred-vaccinated-individuals\/?ff_source=Email&amp;ff_medium=newsletter-CT&amp;ff_campaign=dailypm&amp;ff_content=conservative-tribune\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">omicron variant<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The study showed, for example, that a 25-year-old man had a 0.00 percent chance of dying from COVID. A 45 and a 55-year-old woman have a 0.01 percent and a 0.03 percent chance of dying, the chart indicated.<\/p>\n<p>For a 75-year-old woman, the risk increases to 0.45 percent, which the Times explained equates to a 1 in 220 chance of death.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/injuryfacts.nsc.org\/all-injuries\/preventable-death-overview\/odds-of-dying\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The National Safety Council<\/a>\u00a0calculates \u2014 and publishes annually \u2014 a person\u2019s lifetime odds of dying from a preset list of ordinary causes. The latest data available is from 2019.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/byrV6yv0XA8\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>According to the NSC, it\u2019s roughly 37 times more likely that an average U.S. citizen will die of heart disease, 1 in 6 odds, than a 75-year-old British woman will die of COVID.<\/p>\n<div id=\"in-article-related\" class=\"in-article-more inner-content\">\n<div class=\"in-article-more-label\">Related:<\/div>\n<div class=\"in-article-more-right\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/florida-surgeon-general-goes-public-biden-undercut-governors-throwing-covid-response\/?ff_source=Email&amp;ff_medium=newsletter-CT&amp;ff_campaign=dailypm&amp;ff_content=conservative-tribune\" data-type=\"Internal link\" data-type-location=\"in-content-related\">Florida Surgeon General Goes Public: Here&#8217;s How Biden Undercut Governors While Throwing COVID Response to Them<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>An ordinary American reportedly has higher odds of dying from cancer (1 in 7), from suicide (1 in 88), from an opioid overdose (1 in 92), from a fall (1 in 106) or a motor-vehicle crash (1 in 107), than dying of COVID.<\/p>\n<p>The author of the Times article writes that it would be reasonable to compare the death rate of COVID to that of a normal seasonal flu. \u201cThe average death rate among Americans over age 65 who contract the flu has ranged between 1 in 75 and 1 in 160 in recent years, according to the CDC [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention].\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So far, people who have contracted the omicron variant are experiencing milder symptoms than those with any of the previous strains.
