The effort, according to the U.S. government report, aims to \u201cto co-opt and neutralize sources of potential opposition to the policies and authority of its ruling Chinese Communist Party\u201d and \u201cinfluence overseas Chinese communities, foreign governments, and other actors to take actions or adopt positions supportive of Beijing\u2019s preferred policies.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Dubbed \u201cfamiliarization trips,\u201d the criteria for participants included \u201ceffectiveness and opportunities for favorable coverage\u201d in order to secure \u201cfavorable\u201d coverage\u201d\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n
