Reports are streaming in on a Russian sub that caught fire. Debka Files is reporting a U.S./Russian showdown, in which two subs got into a conflict and exchanged fire. Early reports are the U.S. sub was sunk.
Urgent consultations in Washington, Moscow on reported US-Russian submarines in firefight

First reports reaching DEBKAfile’s military sources say that a US submarine intercepted a Russian nuclear sub in American waters opposite Alaska. The Russian sub escorting the nuclear submarine responded with a Balkan 2000 torpedo and scuttled the US vessel. Urgent consultations in both the White House and the Kremlin were taking place on Tuesday night. US Vice President Mike Pence called off an appearance in New Hampshire after being recalled to Washington for a conference called by President Donald Trump without explanation.

An American submarine operating off the coast of Alaska was REPORTEDLY torpedoed and SUNK during a firefight with a Russian submarine, after the American sub allegedly intercepted the Russian sub in American waters.
The Russian submarine allegedly sustained heavy damage in the fight, with upwards of 14 crew killed, but it made it back to its base in Russia.
I have calls into the Pentagon and to my Intel Sources seeking to confirm (or deny) this information.
No word on US casualties.
Emergency meetings have been taking place at the White House this afternoon, with Vice President Pence being called back to the White House and having to cancel his scheduled trip to New Hampshire.
As Pence was being called back, word broke in Russian media that Russian President Vladimir Putin cancelled a public event he had long scheduled, and diverted immediately for a meeting with his Defense Minister.
At that meeting, both Putin and the Defense Minister SUMMONED the General Secretary of the Russian Armed Forces to the meeting.
While that was taking place, the European Union headquarters in Brussels Belgium called an Emergency meeting of the EU National Security Council and, separately, the British Government called a COBRA meeting for its government.

Something’s Up
First, President Donald Trump’s schedule for today was completely devoid of public events – a rare occurrence on a workday.
Second, Air Force 2, carrying Vice President Mike Pence, was initially reported to have been turned around mid-air on Tuesday so that he could return to Washington, D.C.
Just told it is not an “emergency” (1st word used) that the @VP is sent back to DC. Now being told it is a “diversion.“. No explanation yet of what that means.

Later, Pence’s press secretary said that he had never actually left D.C.

The vice president was scheduled to appear at a political event in New Hampshire and his chief of staff, Marc Short, told a reporter that the public will find out what happened “in a few weeks.”
Third, Russian President Vladimir Putin cleared his public schedule today so that he could attend an urgent meeting with his Defense Minister. The TASS news agency has confirmed this report with the Kremlin.

Then, an unconfirmed report from an Israeli Broadcasting Corporation reporter said that the European Union’s Security Council (he probably meant the Council of the European Union Security Committee) has been called for a previously unscheduled meeting, but that tweet was later deleted without explanation.
About that same time, the European Council held a press conference to announce the outcome of a special meeting they have been holding for two days to select commission positions.
It is unclear if this is the special meeting to which the Israeli reporter referred.

The reports of the sudden gathering of global leaders comes as Iran declared that it had violated the terms of the nuclear deal still in-force between it, Europe (P5+1 countries minus the U.S.) and Russia.

In a joint statement France, Germany, the United Kingdom and the European External Action Service said:
The Foreign Ministers of France, Germany, the UK, and the High Representative are extremely concerned at Iran’s announcement that it has exceeded the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action stockpile limit for low enriched uranium. The International Atomic Energy Agency has confirmed this information.
We have been consistent and clear that our commitment to the nuclear deal depends on full compliance by Iran. We regret this decision by Iran, which calls into question an essential instrument of nuclear non-proliferation.
We urge Iran to reverse this step and to refrain from further measures that undermine the nuclear deal. We are urgently considering next steps under the terms of the JCPoA in close coordination with other JCPoA participants.
